Life is a journey—a journey taken one step at a time along the path. Sometimes the path is rough and rugged, scaling the side of a seemingly insurmountable mountain. Sometimes the trail winds through mountaintop pastures bursting with wildflowers and thrumming with wildlife.
Yet no matter where the current path takes us in this journey of life, we must be careful who we allow to be our guide. If we allow Emotion to be our guide, we will soon find ourselves off of the right trail and ensnared in a multitude of traps. For you see, Emotion is a wily and deceitful guide, not someone that we can trust to safely guide us on the path. Emotion will take us up to the top only to cast us down, tumbling to the depths of discouragement and ultimately despair.
Faith is a very different type of guide. Faith is steady, unmoved by the winds and taunts of Emotion. Faith is steady and stable because it is tethered to One so much greater than himself—God Alone. Faith is rooted and anchored in the Word of God, and because Faith keeps his eyes fixed on God’s promises, he is steadfast despite the inner turmoil and pain in his heart.
Though the winds of doubt may blow and the rains of uncertainty pound, Faith is secure. Faith rests in his heavenly Father Who has him in the palm of His hand and will never let him go. Faith sees with trusting vision, resting in His Heavenly Father’s promises no matter what the heart may falsely scream and what the flesh may deceitfully accuse.
At times, Faith may falter and fall, but he never stays down for long. Though he may question and even at times whine to his Heavenly Father, Faith gets back up again. Faith is steady. He keeps putting one foot in front of the other. He does not quit. Faith keeps taking the next step and then the next, ever guided by his loving Heavenly Father.
“Do the next right thing,” Faith tells himself when times are especially tough. “Left foot here. Right foot there,” he counsels himself when his heart is raw and Emotion screams in his face.
Next step. Next step. Next step. Weary Faith keeps walking, walking, walking.
Before long, Emotion is tired of pestering Faith. Oh, Emotion will never fully leave. He will always come back to taunt and tease, but for now, Faith has won the victory.
Verses to strengthen your Faith
Psalms 42:5 Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.
Psalms 16:8-9 I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
2Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Proverbs 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established.
John 10:29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
Dear friends, may Faith ever be your guide as you walk this journey of life. Though the path be rugged and steep and Emotion taunts and teases, Faith will ever lead us on to heaven and the fulness of joy.

Thank you for this encouragement! It's so easy to rely on emotions, especially for us women. When we learn to ignore the emotions and walk with God, real victory happens!
