Hi friends! I hope you are enjoying the short, practical posts lately. I guess it’s my version of Instagram…
There are so many things I’m tackling here at home that I just wanted to share them with you. I hope to inspire and encourage and maybe share a morsel of wisdom with someone else who struggles knowing how to do home projects like I do.
I wish that I had learned so many life skills decades ago, but alas here I am. Instead of wallowing in self-pity for all the hands-on skills that I lack as an adult, I’m doing my best to learn as much as I can and then simultaneously pass on that knowledge to my children.

A word of advice to all the parents out there…
Our culture prizes academics and book learning almost to the point of excluding hands-on life and home skills. Don’t let your kids leave your home without knowing how to care for themselves and their future homes. I know for a fact that if I don’t prepare my kids for life, I’m not setting them up for success. All right, I’ll jump off my soap box now…
My patio was a mess from the winter and all the nastiness that the maple trees dropped for months. The rugs were growing green something or other, and this slime had built up in one corner where water continually runs off.
In the past I have gotten down on my hands and knees and hand-scrubbed the rugs and patio. That is absolutely not fun. That method was tedious and not very effective.
Enter the pressure washer. I have a very kind friend who has given me unlimited access to her pressure washer, and I am truly indebted to her for such generosity. The pressure washer is my new BFF when it comes to getting my patio clean!

After cleaning my patio and rugs with a pressure washer for the first time last year, I was hooked on this simple method. It doesn’t require scrubbing. It doesn’t require harsh chemicals. All I do is systematically pressure wash the entire patio and rugs.
Here’s how I cleaned my patio and rugs…
Now before we start, I will tell you I’m not a pro. I’m just a busy mom who wants her patio cleaned!
I pulled all of my patio furniture off of the patio but left the rugs.
I pressure washed the rugs on the patio. Last year I cleaned the rugs in the yard, but then mud come back up onto the rugs from the ground.

I laid the rugs on top of the patio furniture to dry.
After moving the rugs, I pressure washed the patio. I started at one end of the patio in a back corner and systematically cleaned about a 2 foot x 2 foot area at a time moving towards the yard as I went (this encouraged the water to run off into the yard).
I put the nozzle very close to the patio to get all the nasty mold (or whatever it is) off. Now be advised, if you put the pressure washer nozzle close to concrete, it will knock paint off! I actually want to knock the old paint off my patio concrete, so I am okay with this process.

I tried some 30 Seconds Cleaner on my patio rugs, but honestly, I did not notice a difference in the cleanliness. I think that the pressure washer does such a thorough job that extra cleaner is unnecessary. I did like how clean the 30 Seconds Cleaner got the side of my house!
***Please always try an inconspicuous area first when pressure washing. The intense spray can damage surfaces if you aren't careful. The spray did fray the edge of my oldest rug, but I'm okay with that because I wanted it clean!

I hope you enjoyed this practical post! Happy homemaking.
