Today I want to share some exciting family news and also my modest capsule maternity wardrobe!

First, the exciting news…

I don’t quite know how to say it other than just saying it…our family is growing! We look forward to welcoming a new little one into our home this coming March. I’ve never been very creative in announcing the expectations of our children, so I just spill the beans.

We are so thankful for this little life, and this one is the answer to many, many prayers. While some may look at us and wonder why we want to welcome a child into our home at this season of life when we are no longer in our twenties or even early thirties, yet we see God’s hand of provision and we see this life through different eyes than perhaps a younger parent might.

Seasoned by life and carried through some storms by the grace of God, we, as perhaps a little older than “average” parents see this little one not just as a cuddly baby (though we expect some serious cuteness) but as a life to help shape and form for the service of our kind Shepherd. We long to raise our children as helpful, productive people ready to influence the world for good and ultimately for God.

God has dramatically changed my heart towards motherhood, and though I regrettably cannot change my mindset of past years, I am grateful for God’s grace in granting us a child at this stage of life. I have learned that children are a blessing, and when bitterness knocks at my heart for past personal decisions and some negative outside influences, grace quiets the anxiety and contentment whispers peace. I am grateful.

Now for my modest maternity wardrobe...

Have you noticed the maternity styles these days? It’s well…less than…in a lot of ways…The trends are tight and revealing, certainly not comfortable or very modest.

My personal goal in dressing during pregnancy is to be comfortable and also not draw undue attention to my expectancy. While I certainly cannot keep my expanding borders a secret, I strive to keep the specialness of this time a mystery to the public eye as much as possible.

Maternity Wardrobe: My Capsule Pieces

Here are the pieces that I have accumulated for my wardrobe:

Pair of Mossimo denim joggers—these were given to me, and I cannot find an active link. You may be able to find some on thrift websites. These are not technically maternity, but they work beautifully.

Black Motherhood pants from Kohls. These honestly don’t fit well, so I only wear them occasionally.

A thick, white sleeveless shirt from the thrift store—This shirt allows me to keep wearing some of my pre-pregnancy shirts as “jackets.”

Several looser long-sleeve shirts

3 Dresses for church or everyday wear

Maternity Wardrobe: My Attempts at Thrifting

Like a good thrifter, I tried and tried to find maternity (or looser) clothing at my local thrift stores, but to little avail.

I did find a few tops at the thrift store: a loose light brown top that you may have seen in my pictures and videos, a well-made white sleeveless shirt(perfect for layering), and a typical maternity shirt with shirring on the sides.

Maternity Wardrobe: My Shein order

I love the idea of supporting American businesses and I do my best to shop American. But I will say when it comes to clothing I need for such a short period of time, it chokes me to spend a lot of money. Out of desperation, I typed “modest maternity clothing” into Google, and dresses from Shein kept popping up.

I’m always a little nervous ordering from a company like Shein, but overall, the clothes I ordered from this company fit me well and will serve for the length of time needed. Here’s what I bought from them.

--Undergarments—underwear, nursing bras, leggings, undershorts, and hose

--3 Dresses

--Loungewear/pajamas

My total came to about $189 which is way more than I like to spend on clothes, but I felt like I was getting a decent deal for the amount of clothing I purchased (13 orders with some of them having multiple pieces).

If you are in the same season of life as I am, I hope this gave you some simple ideas for keeping a cute and also modest maternity wardrobe. My wardrobe isn’t big but it works just fine for this very small time frame.

Well, friends, I know this post was quite the diversion from my usual content. I hope you could at least chuckle at my modeling attempts. I don’t think I’ll be quitting my day job anytime soon to enter the modelling world.

I wish you a wonderful and beautiful week!
