New Christmas Music! | "Who is He in Yonder Stall" for Vocal Duet or Choir

Hi, friends! I am excited to share a new piece of music with you today just in time for the Christmas season! It may seem early to start thinking about special music for the holidays, but actually now is a perfect time to plan music for worship services, Christmas parties, and other festive events.

I have the privilege of leading our small but faithful choir (Don't think that I'm up front waving my arms. I "direct" from the piano which means I initiate practices, give input, but in the end simply play the piano while our choir manages themselves.). Something that I have found with much of the music that's available today s is that the music is too complex and "big" for our 8-9 person choir. Within our choir, we have varying levels of musicianship, and so we have the greatest confidence and success with beautiful yet simple music. Such music is not always easy to find.

So here enters my personal mission to write music that is both beautiful and attainable for the performers. I strive for simplicity when composing music, and when there is an easier way to play a chord or arpeggio, I keep the pianist in mind and write the music simply. A polished pianist can always expand my writings, yet I hope to meet the "learning" pianist wherever he or she is at.

For the vocal parts, I strive to write chords that "make sense" to the average performer instead of greatly augmented/diminished chords with lots of "extra notes" that distract from the main melody and harmony. I also keep the melody and harmony in the pianist's part so that the choir can easily hear their parts.

So today, I present a simple yet beautiful arrangement of "Who is He in Yonder Stall." This arrangement can be sung as a duet or even expanded into a full choir for SATB (Sopranos and Tenors singing the high part, and Altos and Basses singing the low part). I'll share a sneak peak here with you, but to order the full copy, check out my store right here on this blog or head on over to Sheet Music Plus (you can listen to an audio file on Sheet Music Plus to hear what the music sounds like!).
