"Jesus Loves Me" for Beginner Violin or Piano | FREE Sheet Music

As you may remember from some recent piano posts, I shared my burden to help train and educate my children and others in the joy of learning instruments for church worship. Several folks gave some very encouraging feedback, and my heart is blessed to know that some small work I do may encourage others.
Today I want to share a simple arrangement that I wrote for my oldest daughter. Recently, she grabbed a beginner piano book and was using it to teach herself how to play “Jesus Loves Me” on her violin. I hadn’t assigned this hymn to her, and when I heard this beloved children’s song wafting down from upstairs, I couldn’t help but smile.
So I asked my daughter if she would like me to write it out for her on the violin, and she was excited! She had already figured out most of the song by ear (she actually wasn’t playing the notes on the piano page but had transposed it for her violin without even really knowing…shh…don’t tell her. I’m actually proud of her for being able to look at notes, understand intervals, and translate it to her instrument.)
This simple arrangement of “Jesus Loves Me” helped my daughter shore up a few unsteady parts. As I am want to do, I wrote an easy piano part to go along with her violin. We have had a jolly time playing together, and I am hoping that we can perform it soon on my channel.
One the reasons why I write piano accompaniments so simply is that I want a younger student to have the ability and confidence to play the piano part. Thus, a beginner violinist and a late beginner pianist could very well play this duet together. A tri-fold benefit it happening here: a violinist learns the hymn on his instrument, a pianist on his piano, and both musicians learn the art of ensemble playing. A triple victory!
So many hymn arrangements out there are lightyears ahead of students' abilities, and that is unbelievably frustrating to them. They want to play music NOW, but there is not much available for them.
Over my years as an amateur composer, I have learned that so often the simplest musical message is the purist and most beautiful. Every complex musical concept is built upon something simple, and when a composer can capture the simple for a young student, he has done a good thing.
